Do you call your child names?

Sounds like a crazy question right? Lately, I have heard parents calling their children names, or giving them labels without really meaning to I assume. Here is what I am talking about:

"My autisic son..."

" My handicapped kid..."

"My deaf daughter..."

These labels were not really necessary in the context of the conversation. I really just think that these parents are used to describing their children to doctors, other parents, etc. that it just comes out naturally. It got me thinking that we worry so much about how others will perceive our children and here we are giving them a label ourselves.

What do you think?

I try to never do that.
When I describe my daughter, I always put her first, label second. Such as: My daughter with disabilities, my daughter with CP, my daughter with special needs. She is my daughter first and foremost, anything else comes after.
